สวัสดีค่ะทุกคน!
If you are learning to read and write Thai, here is a file for you!
Personally, when I have to teach a beginner to learn Thai, I'd recommend them to start with the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA). If you don't know what it is, please READ. In my humble opinion, to apply the IPA is easy and friendly for beginners who desire to learn Thai. It helps them to pronounce and learn vocabulary through Roman scripts. It's similar to learning Chinese when a beginner should start from Hanyu Pinyin. However, there is no standardized system for beginners. You can see many Roman scripts representing different consonants and vowels depending on teachers or schools.
For example,
/k/ represents ก ไก่.
/g/ represents ก ไก่.
Which one is correct? It's controversial for a long time to discuss which is the best system.
By the way, if you jump into learning Thai scripts, you can skip the process of IPA. However, learning Thai script takes time and dedication. If your goal is to achieve Thai, to read Thai books, to listen to a Podcast in Thai and understand Thai TV drama. This is the right way!
As you may know, Thai is a tonal language. The tone affects the meaning of the word. Also, you cannot pronounce from what you read. I'd say "Form" and "Pronunciation" are different, especially for Low-Class Consonants. Anyway, below is a table to guide you to memorize how to read Thai.
I hope you like it!
