"Paulene is my third Thai teacher, so I wasn't a complete beginner when I started classes with her. She really listened to me when I explained my needs and was immediately able to adapt to them. I know a lot of Thai words, but nobody understands me when I try to speak Thai because my tones are all wrong. Previous teachers didn't really correct my pronunciation or explained to me what I was doing wrong. After a couple of sessions with Paulene, I finally understood some important mistakes I was making, how tones were not my only problem because I also mispronounced some consonants, and Paulene explained very clearly how I could practise to correct them.
The material she uses is practical for beginners and works well for me to review basic concepts and to practise my pronunciation with some structures I already know and some new ones. There are things I was never able to memorize that are finally sticking because we do enough drilling and reviewing when I really need it.

I usually see Paulene twice a week, I always look forward to my classes, she gives me valuable feedback, useful homework, she's very friendly and easy to talk to (in English for now, because I can't do it all in Thai yet), and classes go by really fast. The fact that her English is so good is definitely helpful. She doesn't only teach me the language but also a lot about Thai culture. She's very open-minded and I think she's a natural teacher. She really motivates me to actually study and do my homework!
As a language teacher myself, I can be very picky with my language teachers, but Paulene is a keeper! What I also really like about her is that she's not scared to say she's not sure about something. I sometimes ask language questions that are unrelated to the point we're working on, and if she doesn't know the exact answer, she won't pretend she does, but she will look it up and let me know later. Which is very professional and very refreshing for someone like me who has lived in Thailand for a few years already.

She's very organized, always well-prepared, she has a folder for me on her google drive with a new folder for each session, with our recorded class, the material we covered during class, her feedback and my homework. I then upload my homework there too. Which she always corrects before class.

"As I am working full time, my time to study on my own is quite limited. Therefore, I never had the energy and motivation to start studying Thai by myself. That really changed when I started to study with Paulene. I also could not find a starting point from where to start my studies. In my opinion, she is a great teacher and her way of teaching really resonates with me. The way she creates the curriculum and takes care of my schedule requirements because of my hectic schedule. Moreover, I think she gives me a holistic overview on all topics. Also, she has a positive energy and the individual curriculum as well as the patients to repeat everything again and again is a real strength. As I study slowly, I really need a teacher who has the motivation to drill with me the vocabulary and tones. I am always looking forward to the class and taking so much away from it.

As a full-time working person with no prior knowledge about Thai, she took my hand and helped me to start my journey into Thai. But with the high quality of teaching and a great curriculum, Paulene really made me understand and remember a lot of phrases and vocabulary. My challenge is my Thai pronunciation was bad and I had no local Thai people to practice with. After taking a course for a few months, I am getting better; Khruu Paulene tells me when I am saying something incorrectly and she shows me how to say it correctly. She has a deep knowledge of speech formation and is able to both discuss and demonstrate proper mouth and tongue positioning to produce the correct sound.

Moreover, I am learning how to say things and what Thai people would say in real life I can hear when I say something wrong and am beginning to correct myself.

What I like is how she uses her mirror to see how she is forming words and then showing me is very helpful because I am more a visual learner. Explaining what the tongue and lips should be doing also helps me a lot. And asking about how things would be different in my country is fun and helps explain Thai culture too.

One of the highlights of my week is my hour with Khru Paulene. Thai language acquisition is not easy for a native English speaker (at least not this one) but though she is rigorous, she makes learning enjoyable and fun. Her attitude toward her students is warm and charming and the time with her goes by quickly. I would say Khruu Paulene is the best! Perfect English, understands nuanced questions, cheerful and fun to work with, and is helping me get better each week!

"I was struggling badly with trying to work out HOW to start learning Thai effectively. I had previously bought a CD set for my car which I had a little success with and had tried numerous different Youtube videos and Vlogs with little to no success. I ended up trying to learn individual words so I could string them together to try to make a sentence.

After learning with khruu Paulene, I really feel a lot more optimistic about my ability to learn the Thai language. Following my first meeting I found out what type of learner I am, which allowed Paulene to tailor the lessons to enable me to retain a lot more information. The hour-long lessons fly by, which tells me exactly how much I am enjoying the learning process.
In the past, I was unsure how to start learning but I now have a clear understanding of the best way to approach studying and her tailored consonant flashcards have made it a lot easier to recognise, pronounce and write them correctly. Before have a class, I wasn't comfortable with speaking in Thai to my mother and local Thai people. However, I now find myself using a lot of what I've been learning with Khruu Paulene. Speaking Thai is more comfortable even though I still probably sound like a foreigner. But I've been told by my friends that I am starting to sound more Thai.

Learning Thai with Khruu Paulene has been one of the best things that I could have started in 2023, and I aim to keep it going until I am fluent with Thai. I would also say her lessons are tailored fit for every students because she will make examples of sentences you will need for your daily dealings based on your purpose of speaking Thai whether it be in business or just anything.

"I was having problems with remembering Thai tones and pronunciation. After taking a few classes with khruu Paulene, I think I have improved my pronunciation and I'm better at the tones. I have learned how to pronounce the Thai alphabet and how to read the IPA system. I have learned where to put my tongue, for example; when I try to pronounce /ng/ sound, (which was very difficult!), I tend to pronounce as /n/ sound instead and now, to my own surprise, I can now produce that sound.

She has been a very good teacher for me. I really appreciate having a professional teacher listening and correcting me, and helping me with how to actually pronounce the word. I also enjoyed the structure of the lessons and format. Having a recording of the lessons has been really helpful to me.
The IPA system has also been very good for me to learn, and I believe that I can pronounce more clearly using this. I liked the way she got me to practice producing the sounds, where should my tongue be, and open my mouth wider. It really helped.

Moreover, it was nice that I could quickly find the videos and watch them. The same with the feedback from my homework was uploaded fast. It was also clear what I should work on to improve.

To sum up, thanks khruu Paulene for opening my eyes to IPA and helping me with /ng/ and other sounds. The experience has been fun and the lessons intense but still relaxed :) It has been a pleasure to study Thai language with khruu Paulene. I would gladly study Thai with you again"
